Hi all, sometime ago I acquired a vintage and cool IBM Thinkpad SelectaDock I (3547-001) docking station and I've finally got around to testing it with a few of my Thinkpads, below are my results. I'm keen to know any other users experiences. with the SelectaDock 1 (SaD1). Surprisingly there appears very little info online regarding SaD1, just a hardware maintenance manual. My testing showed:-

1 x Thinkpad 760XD; combined with its SelectaBase (SaB) Model I connects and works absolutely fine
But;
2 x Thinkpad 770X; with SaB 770 a very high pitched continuous beep upon power on. No post/blank screen but can hear what I think is the HDD spinning
1 x Thinkpad 600E; with SaB 600, as per 770X
1 x Thinkpad 600X; with SaB 600, as per 770X

Therefore I am speculating that perhaps the SaD1 is not meant to work with the 770 or 600 series? I say this because the above 770s/600s do work fine in my SelectaDock III but the thinkwiki SaD1 page claims it is compatible with the 770/600 series. Has anyone ever got a Thinkpad 770 or 600 working docked into a SaD1? If so was there anything specific you did or I need to look out for?

Also the SaD1 comes with 1 x shared ISA and PCI slot. What I don't have for my SaD1 is the 'Option Card Cover' (P/N 39H7423) this provides a mount and cover for any installed PCI/ISA card, without this the card hangs loose. I wondered if the 'Option Card Cover' was not included as standard with the SaD1 and you had to purchase separately?

I think the SaD1 is handy for DOS gaming, its relatively small in size vs other vintage docking stations and gives you the option to add a ISA/PCI card and has a gameport. Cheers Brian

Can you upload some pictures of your Selectadock 1 ? I haven't the SAD1, I've the SAD3 but it's allway interesting. On the SAD3 the main problem is the transfer rate because all ISA and PCI are shared between. It's a limitation of the chip inside. And for this reason if you use a voodoo 3 inside you can't get the max performance if you add another PCI or ISA card inside like a Yamaha sound card for exemple.
