I'm just curious and would like a better understanding of some of the fundamental differences between these two utilities. I used UNISOUND to initialise my Yamaha sound card to begin with and then I later found out it was the cause for the CD audio not working in Tomb Raider. Since using SETYMF though, the CD audio is working for the game. As far as I'm aware, the same channels get set with both - A220, D1, I5 (or 7), P330 etc. So I'm not sure what's different.

I'll try to grab some screenshots tomorrow showing comparisons, if any.

You may have to explicitly specify volume level for CD/AUX input with UNISOUND, there should be a command line parameter for it. I think it defaults to mute for normally unused inputs to have lower noise etc.

Bingo! You’ve figured out the answer. The difference. You’re indeed right. I’ve attached a screenshot from earlier in the day and CD is at 0. Bit counter productive to have it set at that by default though.

So thank you for bringing that to my attention. 😊

No, not really. The CD input can be very noisy depending on the cable that is used, the path it takes and the rest of the environment. Setting the CD input only active when it is needed eliminates a lot of constant noise, especially if you have multiple sound cards.
