I finally have some time and space to mess around with my prolinea again(instead of letting the picoGUS sit in its box for over a month) and now I'm back again with another odd issue similar to what a user experienced hereVGA woes... possible vga adapter damage? .
My Prolinea 4/33 machine with a Tseng ET4000/w32i seems to always boot in an EGA like? mode when connected to the KVM i have. I say "EGA like" as it only has a VGA connector but various games/tools think its running EGA and DOS wont change to 50 line mode. Though games that let you force vga(planet x3) or ignore it(Doom) run without issue and so does Win3. Unfortunately like him neither the built in bios setup or bios setup disk has any config for it beyond refresh rate nor are there any jumpers.
Im assuming the KVM is causing an issue with some early form of monitor detection but before i go and try to modify the kvm box i was hoping for a software solution. Failing what pins would i need to modify to tell it to use VGA+? Im guessing its using the old monitor id pins(which i didnt even know about till yesterday) and not EDID, and that they should be brought to ground but i couldnt find a concrete answer online
PS if you see this Jo22 i somehow never saw your post but thanks for the help i did get things working. The "bad cylinder" isnt a geometry issue i actually remembered that this drive had a few unrelocated bad sectors many years ago in the XP machine it came from, never changed in the all the years i used it.
