Just bought this Thinkpad 240 for mega cheap, as it was listed as faulty with a broken screen:
It arrived today and is actually in really nice condition. A few minor scuffs, but not too much wear on the palm rest or keys (space bar has a little bit of shine, but not bad). Has the extended battery pack (unknown condition - it's currently discharged).
It's only the base 300MHz Celeron, compared to the 366 and 400MHz models which were available, but does have a working (12GB) drive and has been upgraded from 64MB to 192MB. These are just about the smallest models IBM made - I've never seen one 'in the flesh' before and was really taken aback by just how small and compact it is - even today. Still nothing to be sniffed at for DOS / early 98 gaming, and have the following specs:
- 300/366/400MHz Celeron
- 64 - 320MB RAM
- 2MB Neomagic 128XD
- 1x PCMCIA Cardbus slot
- ESS Solo-1 with line in, mic, headphone
- 1x USB, VGA, parallel, serial, IRDA, PS/2, modem
- 800x600 10" TFT screen
The best thing is that it all seems to work other than the screen:
I've been able to find a used screen matching the model number this has, so fingers crossed I can get this repaired and working! If I can, then this will replace my Thinkpad 600X (P3-450) as my portable, sofa-gaming DOS machine, as the audio support from the Solo-1 is far, far better than the Crystal CS4624 of the later 600X (the FM output is truly dreadful).
