Hi.
I have old floppy drive - Panasonic JU-475-3AK0 (5.25, 1.2MB).
The problem is that drive is not recognized. When i set it in bios, i get message "floppy fail (40)" and the drive not work anyway. I tried replace drive letter (A or B) and check cable on 3.5 drive (work as A and B). I think that is problem in PCB. And that drive works well but many years ago.

It's not really possible to connect the cable backwards to 5.25" drive, but usually it can be rotated at the controller/mobo side. Is the drive LED always on when you power the machine? If so the cable is oriented wrong.
Most BIOSes don't check anything but cylinder count. Does the drive step at all? If you do get head movement during BIOS boot phase then the culprit would be dead or dirty track 0 sensor. Dirty optical sensors in well used 5.25" drives are very common.

I think the cable is connected properly. The 3.5 drive works good and it's connect with the same cable. Problem is in 5.25 drive only.

Does it move the head or not? If you are unsure, move the head inwards with your fingers (gently) when the PC it off and see if the head will move back towards track zero on power-on, or (at latest) during BIOS detection phase. For the latter make sure you have the "Floppy drive seek at boot" option enabled in BIOS settings.

That is not correct behaviour. Disconnect the data cable and see if the LED comes on when power is applied. If so, the main chip on the floppy drive is dead. If not on then your cable is somehow reversed or faulty. Test it with another drive but not 3.5" since these have different connectors. To be sure you have test it with a 5.25" drive.

Suppose nobody played with the jumpers since it was working, but you can check those https://archive.org/details/bitsavers_panason … age/n3/mode/2up .
Something that I myself struggled an awful lot in the past, on the edge connector, pin 1 is from the side of the notch. Don't know why all 5.25 drive manufacturers ignored this in the silkscreen.

Hm, I wonder if your cable connectors lack the plastic piece that prevents them from being plugged in wrong? Some photos of the cable, connectors and the drive would help.
Did you check the LED operation with cable unplugged? It is still always on?

The cable cannot attach in wrong way because the other 3.5 drive works good. If the cable has beed plug wrong way the 3.5 drive wont work too. Today check the led
