I've done some searching and found old references to an eBay user who sells PCB-type adapters to allow Tualatins to work on Coppermine motherboards but no recent posts. Newer mentions of adapters are all about the Lin-Lin adapter which runs about $80 on eBay.

I have two 1.4 GHz S Tualatins that I'd like to use with an Epox E3-D3VA motherboard. I picked up two of these adapters since they were cheap but I have no soldering skills!

The seller has Celerons and slower Tualatins with the adapter attached for sale but hasn't responded to my question of whether he's got any 1.4 GHz versions.

Does anyone have experience with these adapters?

Does anyone feel like offering soldering services? Sorry if this question is too close to buying/selling for the forum.

Unless I can find two Lin-Lin adapters for a much lower price I'll likely look for a single-processor FC-PGA2 motherboard and/or install 1 GHz Coppermines in the E3-D3VA.

I bought one of those adapters and soldered it on, but the CPU was from a lot of parts that I purchased that had been intended for gold scrap so I didn't know if it worked or not before I added the adapter. When it didn't work, I had no way of knowing if the CPU was already dead, or if I had done something incorrectly. So then I bought one of the ones he offers with the adapter in place. I used it for a while in a Soyo 7VMA-B, but it didn't fit tightly in the socket and it finally burned the power pin because poor contact causes resistance causes heat. It will no longer work in that motherboard, but that board still works fine with Coppermine CPUS. I'm now using the modded 1.266 in a Tyan S1854, and it works fine in that board; in the Soyo I would have to press down on the CPU while closing the lever to keep it from popping out of the socket, but no such issue in the Tyan board. Another member here had a thread and he stated that this seller had switched to a thicker PCB for the interposer which caused these issues. He had tightly clamped and reheated his CPU to make the interposer fit more tightly.

While it was working in the Soyo board it worked fine, and I've had no issues at all with it in the Tyan board. Unfortunately, the Tyan board has no overclocking options while the Soyo did.

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?

I bought one of the pre-soldered 1.4Ghz Tualarons from that seller and have been using it in my ASUS CUBX-L without issues for years. I did buy an adapter for one of my 1.4Ghz Tualatin-S CPUs, but still haven't got around to doing any work on it yet.

Yes, I also remember that recent post from a fellow here talking about PCB thickness.

From my experience, I bought a 1266-S from the Korean guy about two years ago or so, and I did not have any problem.

It works flawlessly on most 440BX or i815 boards in my collection. Paid for it around 50€ including shipping if I remember correctlt.

Is it safe to slot a Tualatin CPU into an 815 board just to see if it works? (Before I spend money on an adapter which might not be needed)

1. It won't work (unless the board was designed for Tualatins, which you can look up)
2. Safety depends on which voltage gets fed to it. Do you know what the motherboard is going to supply? If not, it's not safe
