Hello everyone.
I wanted to run my M919 mainboard with a VLB graphics card. In the 90s I used an M919 V3.4B/F and a Cirrus Logic VLB card for a long time. For purely nostalgic reasons, I would like to be able to use such a combination again.
I currently have an M919 V3.3B/F and two VLB cards. Cirrus Logic CL-GD5428 and Trident VL46A/V2. I have the following problem with both cards:
In games that use the digital sound of the sound card, the colors are displayed incorrectly.
Wolfenstein 3D changes to the wrong colors when an object is picked up that also triggers a digital sound.
Doom and Duke 3D start immediately with wrong colors. However, this does not happen if digital sound has been deactivated in the setup.
PCI and ISA graphics cards work fine. I have also checked another sound card.
I have also tried:
- other resources (IRQ/DMA) for the sound card
- Bus speed of the board slowed down to 25MHz
- played with jumpers of the VLB graphics card
- another M919 mainboard V3.4B/F
- different CPUs (486DX2 / 486DX4 / 5x86)
- different BIOS settings (VGA Palette Snoop / Shadow BIOS ROM)
There is no change in the situation.
What could be the reason for this?
According to the statements in this thread, it could be a hardware bug?
-> Palette inverted when using a VLB video card and Sound Blaster and compatible cards
But I know having owned such a combination running fine in the past, so it must be possible somehow. Maybe with a different card?
Thanks in advance for your advice!
