Hello all,
Happy New Year, I haven’t posted for a long while as I only now got back into this beautiful hobby.
Now, I got meself a nice little DigiPos system with an Apollo 133 chipset and integrated Savage 4 graphics. The OS of my choice is Win98 SE, however for the life of me I cannot get the Savage to work, I now tried 3 different drivers, one of Phil’s website and two others, one being from here, always with the same result: “there seems to be a problem with the configuration” or something like that, always after the reboot, there is no visible conflict and I have disabled almost everything on board as well (of course not the graphics unit).
Is there anything I can do, as I'm lost for words and ideas. I thought it had to do with missing chipset drivers at first as they made my life a bit harder as well, but I managed to install them now.

One of my Sony Vaio laptops had a similar problem before it stopped turning on completely, so this could be a sign of a dying chip/motherboard.

You need the S3 ProSavage drivers, as the regular Savage4 drivers won't work with the VIA IGP solutions like the ProSavage and Unichrome. You can find them on the VIA website: https://download.viatech.com/en/support/driversSelect.jsp

Just note that the ProSavage will be gimped by the SDRAM the motherboard utilizes. Don't expect it to perform like a full-fledged Savage4.

That is perfect and did the trick, nice, thank you. The only issue I have now is that Direct 3D doesn’t seem to be working at all. When I run DXdiag it shows that no Direct 3D acceleration is available, from my understanding there should at least be basic acceleration? Shall I maybe reinstall Direct X?

What version of DirectX are you using?
I generally avoid using anything lower than 8.

Life isn't long enough to re-enable every hidden option in every BIOS on every board... 🙁

I just fixed it myself by just installing DX7, is 8 preferable?

There is no harm installing DirectX 9.0c. The Savage4 has no hardware capabilities (T&L mostly) that will call for anything higher than DirectX 6.0.
