nice ! I've got 486dx66, 8Mb RAM here. Got Boot Manager with options to load into DOS, WIN95 and OS/2 WARP. But I didn't know I could install Office 97 to it 😀 How is it ? Running slow or ok-ish ? Min 8mb ram is not enough for it I recon.

8 MB and Office 97?
Happy swapping!

Depending on your cacheable area (cache size!), I'd recommend to upgrade to 16, 20, 24 or 32 MB RAM.

Yes, I have 16mb of FPM Ram.
And I am using a Compact Flash card as a hard drive. This really makes a difference.
Changed my Windows 95 settings to perform like a Server.
Let Microsoft handle virtual memory managing.
Works pretty good for a 486.

Yes, i think your computer specs would meet the minimum requirements to run Office 97.
But a Compact Flash card for a hard drive really helps improve performance.
My computer is very reliable. Never crashes or hangs and I think the Compact Flash card has allot to do with it.

Yeah good point about compact flash card. Will probably migrate to it. I got ISA-to-USB card installed and it’s not fast but despite that running things from usbstick is faster than from HDD 😀

Running a 1993 VLB Motherboard 486 in 2024

Guys this is the Best 1993 VLB motherboard 486.
Well. It might NOT be the Best but it runs pretty good, Quiet, and performs great.
It’s Very Stable and Reliable.
With the hardware components I selected everything installs EASY and All the Drivers are included in
Win 3x and Win95 installation Disks.
Everything Works out of the Box.
Internet and Networking works great too.

Wish I had this computer back in 1993

I Can’t believe it’s running all these programs with only 16mb of RAM.

Wow, I was really surprised when I saw WinAmp ... I had to go 160 on an AMD DX5 to play ... Then I saw "CD Track" and order was restored in my brain 🤣

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

No, MP3’s play better in DOS with MPX play. But Win95 games play okay and Sound Great.

Guys,
“This is the Best Win95 VLB motherboard 486 Ever”.

Well, anyways it’s pretty good.
It’s so fast and reliable for a 486 computer running Win95
This is how a 486 computer is suppose to perform.

”I Feel the Need for Speed”.

Need for Speed Porsche on a 486?
If that's playable id call it the best 486 as well, EA's minimum requirement are a 200 MMX!

I agree with Chinny22. In that game, even if it works somehow, it would have all the speed of a Model T Ford going up a very steep hill.

If this Mega 486 is so great, where is the Doom benchmark results?

Atari 2600, TI994a, Vic20, c64, ZX Spectrum 128, Amstrad CPC464, Atari 65XE, Commodore Plus/4, Amiga 500
PC's from XT 8088, 486, Pentium MMX, K6, Athlon, P3, P4, 775, to current Ryzen 5600x.

“I am a Believer in Windows 95 again”

Guys, My memories of Win95 from 1995 are NOT very good.
This operating system gave me allot of frustration when it was first released back in 1995
My old ISA motherboard 486 computer with 486dx-33 and 4mb of RAM could hardly run Win95
So I had to upgrade all my PC hardware.
This is where my PC upgrading Nightmares began. And it has Never Stopped.

But Today I am a Believer in Win95 again
Its so EASY to install and Setup and Old 486 computers upgraded with a CF cards perform great with Win95
It’s My NEW Favorite Operating System for the 486 and 1st gen Pentium computers.
Works great for installing and playing DOS games.

You really installed Windows 95 on a 486 DX-33 with 4 MB of RAM?

Guys, I was changing out the CF card and some how the computer won’t boot now.
I get a IDE Controller error now.
I think the CF card reader is Bad ( Cheap part ) and maybe ruined the VLB Controller.
So I purchased some parts to repair it.
I needed to better organize the CF card and cables anyways.

Wish me luck.
