So I have a total of 6 voodoo 2 cards. 1 works fine but the others need attention.

I have a variety:
- Creative 8MB '98 model works fine
- Creative 12MB '98 model (artifacts)
- STB 12MB '00 V2.1 (no display or POST)
- STB 12MB '99 V2.0 (purple or orange display. Goes blank when attempting 3D)
- Vulcan 2 125MHz (no detect but passes thru to windows fine)
- STB 12MB '99 V2.0 (works fine but dark in 3D)

Before I look into detail on the dead cards I'd like to know if there is a known fix for the dark display?
It has the same issue on another 98 box, as have the other cards so I can rule out the PC itself as culprit.

The other card that displays purple and orange in 2D (depending on cable wiggle) has been multi monitor tested. I have read the GenDAC chip could be at fault? As soon as I change res or load 3d it goes blank.

I guess I'm hunting for someone in Australia who may have experience with these repairs.

Gamma settings make a big difference

Wiggle = something loose. Either the cable or socket. (Eg pinholes are too fatl

I built:
Convert old ASUS ASC boardviews to KICAD PCB!
Re: A comprehensive guide to install and play MechWarrior 2 on new versions on Windows.
Dos+Windows 3.11+tcp+vbe_svga auto-install iso template
Script to backup Win9x\ME drivers from a working install
Re: The thing no one asked for: KICAD 440bx reference schematic

I tried going from 1.30 to 1.70. All it did was saturate the light but didn't increase it.

May be the vga socket? Tried it on a BX, LX and KT133 with different screens and vga cables. I have a bunch of loopback cables too. All the same result.

It would be really good if it's just a dodgy hole in the vga. I guess I could nick one and try.

The screen was badly discoloured but the driver installed on it fine and showed up in the display tab. But went blank loading Unreal.

Thanks. I'll look him up @ OCAU.

Corrosion like that will cause issues.
You will probably need to learn to solder.
Though one of those glass fibre brushes and a good wash might help.

Yeah I randomly sent the corrode pic as it remained after giving it some iso. Could well be an issue too.

With this much $ of broken old gear it seems worth learning the art of smd work.
