AWE64 Gold woes

So, today I decided to install a new VGA card in my setup and to my surprise, soonish realized I had somehow corrupted the PnP EEPROM on my AWE64 Gold. With the resources available on these forums I was able to flash with the AWEFLASH utility another CT4390 EEPROM over it and - success! - I was able to use my AWE64 Gold again.

Almost without issues.

When entering Windows I get an error on loading soundfonts. The configuration utility shows I have no onboard memory at all. Playing midi files or testing AWE sounds in the DOS diagnostics utility makes a rough looping noise with a short pause. And more or less locks the computer up.

So, I wonder: did something else get broken too at the same time with the EEPROM getting corrupted? Or did the flashing not succeed fully - AWEFLASH did complain that what was being read back did not match what was written and that it was aborting - but afterwards everything else except soundfonts is working.

Any ideas?

My guess would be your EEPROM chip is bad if the flash verify failed

Thanks! So it would need to be desoldered and replaced. Are these EEPROM chips available from anywhere except from similar AWE64 Gold donor boards?
