I didnt want reply to guide thread Guide: Installing Windows XP drivers on PCIe X-Fi Titanium sound cards (version 1.2) , so I ask here.

I have an SB0460. What features will I be missing compared to the SB0880 using this guide? Does the SB0460 still support older EAX versions with the stock drivers?
I would appreaciate if tell why this kind of guide is needed and not just install creative labs windows xp drivers ? what they are missing. Can't yet test myself since need to replace capacitors first 😁

Yes, that card will support EAX 1 to 5 with stock drivers. You might still want to install the updated versions of EAX Unified and OpenAL for some games that need them.

It's not needed for PCI X-Fi cards, only for the PCIe models. X-Fi Titanium PCIe cards have problems with OpenAL games if the latest official drivers are used. That's why I wrote that guide and provided an older driver version which doesn't suffer from those issues.

It thought you can use system memory for soundfonts. Just test out what you have right now.

Nice, don't mind my words, I'm still a bit of a novice with these. It's a good point to test this first rather than blindly buying something new immediately 😁
