Hello Vogoners.It is time to consider my latest beast as a retro PC.I have actually two tyan s2915-e dual six core opterons and I would like to ask you if anyone has used the pcie to nvme adaptors to use nvme ssd to old pcie motherboards.What speeds should I expect?

It'll be fine. Speeds will be whatever pcie standard it is x lanes.

There are uefi mods to add the ability to boot from it but if you're not comfortable with that, there are a bunch of software boot loaders that can sit on sata, load the driver, and then boot.

I was told that the samsung 950pro nvme ssd had an onboard option rom and that it can boot on legacy motherboards and i found one locally.I will be reporting in a few days.

Goodmorning Vogoners! It seems Samsung 950 pro was expensive also for another reason.It can boot in a legacy bios considering it has an onboard bios option chip.
not a bad upgrade.
nvme vs sata 2 ssd vs sata3 mechanical disk.
