Per the subject, I’m diagnosing some issues with said laptop that doesn’t seem to turn on. I received it without a hard drive and a replaced Dallas chip, so I assumed it had been worked on previously. The power brick seems to work, but the floppy drive doesnt spin up upon being turned on. I opened the internet power supply and nothing looked bad except this. Any thoughts? Anything else I should check? Thanks!

One of the long tube of capacitor is bad. I had this happen long ago.

Welp, I’m back, this time with what I think could be the problem? I’ve replaced the five capacitors in the PSU, it still doesn’t work. I’ve noticed though that the previous owner replaced the Dallas chip with a modern equivalent and apparently scratched up the surrounding area. Could this be the issue?

It definitely looks like bad desoldering job. Double check the continuity on the Dallas chip pins.

Does the PSU generate proper voltages?

The PSU generates proper voltages, and I don’t have the original Dallas RTC as it’s been replaced with a Necroware NW12887. I could still check that though.
