Hello all, first time poster. I was given a Compaq motherboard. I've tracked it down to being out of a Compaq 5100 series. I can see that is has the typical AT style power connections, P8/P9. But it has a 3rd in addition to the normal 2. Pinout Guide makes a mention of a P10 connection for 3.3v, but that's for Dell/IBM up to socket 7/8, not slot 1. Anyone have any guidance on how the p10 is wired if not as mentioned on pinout guide? I've tried powering it on with just the p8/p9 with no success.

Looks like you got an MiTAC/Trigon TyphoonB (Compaq OEM)
https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/mitac- … oonb-compaq-oem

That extra power connector appears to have 3x3.3v lines towards the rear of the case and 3 grounds towards the front of the case. You might be able to get by without it if you are not using any 3.3v PCI cards.

Do you get any beeps?
Did you use a separate PCI video card or you used the on-board video? In that case, maybe it doesn't work because you are missing the memory module for the on-board video. I think it's an SDR SODIMM module. Probably it came with 2/4/8 MB. I'm not sure because there are two memory-looking chips right there soldered to the board.

This may be the pinout for the connector you are missing: https://pinoutguide.com/Power/MotherboardPower_pinout.shtml
I'd make sure the GND pins match the ones on your motherboard with a multimeter.

If you proceed without that connector make sure you use an old PCI video card that doesn't need 3.3v.

I think this Rage VGA has two RAM chips on the board. The SO-DIMM is for expansion.

You're right, I just noticed it and edited my post.

Thanks for the replies, sorry for the delay. Sadly, I don't have a pc speaker to attach to hear beep codes. ( I probably should. ) I've tried with using the onboard ATI, a universal PCI and 5v PCI card with no luck. The friend who gave it to me didn't know it's status. So I could be chasing a dead end. I guess the last resort would be to try the pinout from pinoutguide.com. Thanks for your time.

It will use 3.3V for the SDRAM and possibly other onboard peripherals. There are other Compaq motherboards that even change the pinout of the P8/P9 pair to add 5VSB and ATX-style soft power along with having the P10 3.3V connector. I don't know if these Mitac boards do that.
