Hi everyone!

I have an issue with a Voodoo 2 (110 MHz memory chips) that shows pixel errors in certain areas of a game. For instance, in the main menu of Unreal Tournament, the map preview shows the issue the best. The menu also suffers slightly (three pixels in the picture attached).

Before I desolder components randomly, I wanted to ask if someone came across this issue and what could be at fault.
I already tried to lower the clocks (from 90 to 50 MHz), disabled one TMU, reduced FBI memory from 4 to 2 - but all without change.

I already reflowed the solder around the 3dfx chips and the GENDAC chip.

I'm suspecting (in order of likelihood):
GENDAC, FBI memory, FBI chip.

Anybody has another idea what to try? Or did someone run into this issue before?
I don't understand how only one portion on the screen shows these issues. Once inside the game, these artifacts are completely gone. A change in resolution doesn't change the behavior.

I also changed the 2D card (matrox millennium to tseng et6000) - no change.

Thanks in advance for any hints or tips!

Because the issue only happens in a specific place, I wonder if it's a software issue.

Reinstall the game, try different drivers, and if that doesn't work fully format and start fresh. Win98 installs will always go rotten eventually. 😀

But that's all just a guess. Good luck.
