I have a MS-6712 trash picked motherboard that I'm trying to revive.
When powering it up, it starts for 1 seconds, even getting me a boot code, before the board cuts out almost all power except for a repeating two tone error sound.
The POST card confirms that all power rails are down at that stage.
The manual doesn't list this kind of error message.
I've checked the board for shorts on the various power line but couldn't find any.
Is anyone familiar with that kind of error message and know what it could mean?

I had similar problems once and it was the cooler not installed properly. The Athlon would very quickly heat up and the safety circuit would switch off the power.

Good call! Previously I only put the cooler on the CPU without firmly affixing it, but now that I put the cooler on properly, I'm getting a few steps further.

Now the system hangs at bootcode D4 (AMIBIOS). No beeps.

I found two broken traces. The board is booting now.

Congrats on getting to the bottom of it and getting your board working! 😀

And yeah, don't run socket A/462 coolers without the heatisnk fully installed (with thermal compound and all), as that's a good way to kill the CPU. Not all motherboards have this feature where they cut-out and sound the 2-tone alarm - some will happily keep power applied until the CPU is well-cooked. Consider yourself warned (and lucky) in this case. 😁

Yes Sir, thank you. Lesson learned!
