Every time I install a AGP card newer (EG 7600GT) than a 5950U in this board, the BIOS just hangs when powering on. The external power on the card is connected. Also tried a 7400 but no luck.
Any ideas?

Time to check whether it is uefi only.
If yes, there may be other brands that have bios roms.
Some even had a switch to select bios/uefi

Not sure the 7000 series had UEFI Might be that the AGP port is a bit funky and isn't supplying the right AGP signal voltage or that voltage is a bit low and the 7600 isn't able to pick it up.
Just checked and UEFI wasnt implemented in nVidia cards till the GTX 700 series and the HD 7000 series for AMD so its not UEFI.
My guess is the AGP voltages or its missing a signal voltage the 7600 is looking for, Im not knowledgeable enough on AGP internals to help much here with how to test this. (It being a VIA chipset also doesn't help, VIA had some really messed up AGP gart drivers and such that would fuck with GPUs)
Oh. Somehow I missed agp. I'm a jeenyus.
Define hangs. No image? Or shows but doesn't proceed?
If the latter, look for threads on compatibility. You're unlikely to be the first in the world to try this combo

Yup you were not the only one with this issue before . .seems this board in particular doesn't like 7000 series GPUs unless you update the bios.
Last post has the solution they used to get it working, its even a 7600GT.
Finding the bios used might be tricky but itll be out here somewhere.
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/K8T_NeoFSR_FIS2R/support is this the right board ?

if so just update with the latest one there, should fix the issue.

Your Google skills are way better than mine. Thank you. Glad it’s not a hardware issue.
I’ll give the latest (7.1) a crack. I just stayed with v1.9 because back in the day people considered v1.9 “the best” but they don’t exactly explain why anything above that is bad. https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/k8 … version.108771/. I guess back then no one was using a 7600GT 😆

...I was using the Internet before Google existed ...Alta Vista, Web Crawler, Excite, Ask Jeeves, Dog Pile and Lycos all taught me how to make search engines give up their secrets. Though Google is infested with Promoted search results, Ads and AI answers now ..but if you know you know and use https://udm14.com/ instead which removes all promoted, AI and Ads from Google results.
Never actually used Yahoo search so didn't include that.
@Trashbytes, thanks for all your help. I found the problem. The old firmware actually works. The issue is if you set the System Performance from "Fast" to "Turbo", the motherboard no longer boots with the 7600GT. The users in that old forum thought the new firmware was fixing the issue but in reality, using the CMOS reset jumper, the System Performance was being set back to "Fast".
Changing the option to "Turbo" doesn't actually seem to change any settings on the BIOS, it must change something in the background. I haven't noticed any performance difference between Fast and Turbo.
GO GO 7600GT!
