Hi , looking for some help with an IDE detection issue on the below setup.
Motherboard: MB-1333/40 UCQ-B VER:2
Cache: 128kb
Bios: AMIBIOS 1993 (No version stated)
CPU + FPU: AM386 DX-40 + Cytrix CX487S
RAM: 2 banks of 4 x 1MB
Chipset: BIOTEQ 82C3491 + 82C3493
Graphics: Trident TVGA9000C 512kb
Multi I/O: UMC UM82C863F/UM82C865F or Winbond W83757AF
Disk drives: Floppy drive 1.44mb and 360kb + CF card 256mb as IDE
The setup has worked well for about 2 weeks with MS-DOS 6.22 installed until it could not boot from the C: drive anymore (corrupted folder/filenames)
Used Fdisk with the intent to restart the installation but the partition would be missing upon rebooting the system.
If the partition happened to stick then MS-DOS would errored when trying to format the C: drive.
Tried several CF cards and adapters, still the same issue. In fact the bios could not detect the correct size anymore.
Used IDEINFO to check the different CF cards but it would report corrupted information, very rarely it would show the correct information.
I thought the multi I/O was faulty so I replaced it which worked for couple of days then the same issue appeared again.
Eventually I checked both multi I/O on a spare socket 7 motherboard, CF card was detected properly and I could install MS-DOS.
Going back the 386 system.
I installed XTIDE on a NIC to bypass the bios, it worked for couple of days then same issue again.
XTIDE would report corrupted C drive information.
I tried few other things, swapping the PSU with a known good PSU, reducing amount of RAM to 4MB, limiting cache size from 128kb to 32kb, enabled/disabled FPU... nothing seemed to help.
I must also state that both A: and B: floppy disk drives work well. Read/write without issues.
