I switched from a Wavetable X16GS to a McCake from Serdashop and its great. For the first time in my life, I can select a MT-32 sound option on my old P90. This is great. Now, with everything running, I have started to upload soundfonts (sf2) to the McCake to modify how the General Midi games sound. I want to be as close as possible to the SC-55. For this I have uploaded some of the soundfonts which claim that (like SC-55 EmperorGrieferus).
Aside from the general human struggle that I have no clue which soundfont to pick because they all sound a little bit different and I have no clue what really is authentic, because I never heard the real hardware, i have the following question:
Is it possible to rename those files that the 3.5" panel shows the name I want it to show? Most of the files I found start with the same name like "SC-55 ..." and because there is not much space on the scrolling display, it would find it better if I could give them "nicknames" so I know which one is selected. EmperorGrieferus has a 80MB, 120MB and 130MB version which makes it hard to see which one is selected.
I have downloaded the DOS control for the MT32-PI which are very helpful for controlling (better than bending down all the time to push the button) but there is no option which I can see to display the name of the currently selected soundfont.
I simply cannot imaging that people would upload hundreds of soundfonts and then somehow keep an overview what is what without a cheat-sheet.
