Hello, people !

Aquired such a notebook from a man, who searches different places, like abandoned appartments for "official antique stuff" ...
Persona GLT-216A - it must be 286-12. Seemsto be in good shape... But the PSU is missing and it's contacts seem to be a bit weird...

No voltage/amp written on it...

Maybe anyone has a machine like that and can help me to power it ?

Nice find. That PSU reminds me of an original Commadore type. It has to supply +5 and +12 at minimum....my guess is 3 volts and 3 grounds on that odd connector.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Hi,

I just also buy one and will arrive in few days. Have you already found out pinout for PSU or any other information?

A few years ago I cludged together this thing:

Pinout of the contacts on the mainboard:

Mix up 5V input with 12V and the chipset, subcircuit and cpu get fried 😁

So have you fixed it at the end?

I found that this machine is the same as Epson Equity LT-286e. It still hasn't arrived but I hope I 'll find a way to start it 😀

It just arrived. It also has an external battery, so I will try to power it up through it. The battery basically has the whole charging circuit in it. Will post some images later.

I managed to run it yesterday. It is really nice laptop.

@DAVE86 Do you know how to disassembly the LCD? I removed it, and tried to push it from side but it doesn't open. I assume there are few electrolytics that has to be replaced there.

As far as I can remember the display sort of lifts out from the main chassis. It's using an edge connector to deliver the signals and power. Two screws down middle under the rubber plugs have to be removed then there might be some tabs that has to be slided and the frame comes off. These are on the right and left side of the GEO label. Opening the panel might be tricky. The gray coating tends to break/flake off a little. As far as I remember it has a decent inverter ciruit with few electrolityc capacitors. The tft driver board has a lot, small capacity ones.
If yours have a Conner HDD then you might want to check the rubber gasket between the drive assemly housing and drive top cover. That sealant tends to break down into oily goo and render the drive non functional in time as it creeps into the internal mechanics.

@DAVE86 thanks for the info, but I still cannot figure out how to open the screen 😀 I tried to press some klips from the top and I think a break some of it. Does it need to slide or i just neet to find where to push to open it. In toshiba laptops from that age there is usually disassembly instructions, bit I cannot find it for this one.

Old plastics are going to break unfortunately. I refreshed my memory and found some photos. There are screws under those rectangular rubber bumps on the top of the frame.

The attachment 1498250232136.jpg is no longer available

Once screws are removed. Unclip the frame starting from the bottom and the sides and turn it up and out relative to the top. The top part has four wider clamps at each side (better not break those)

@DAVE86 Thanks a lot mate, it did the job. I managed to open the screen but of course broke few clips. It is not that bad.

Next challenge is to fix RTC. I cannot make it to recognize my HDD. I will either do a battery hack, or try to order new modern replacement DS12887A+. Although they claim that it is drop in replacement for DS1287, many people reported that it is not always 100% compatible. Not sure if you have any experience with it.

Have you maybe successfully connected external VGA monitor? I still cannot make it show anything on external VGA monitor. Not sure if there is any keyboard shortcut for it, but it does not recognize automatically that monitor is connected.

BTW, I owe you at least two beers so far 😀

Glad I could help! I really thought I lost these pictures. Some 6- 7 years ago I fixed this computer up for a friend. I've installed a dip socket for Dallas rtc and just hacked a 3V coin cell on top of it. We had to look for a replacement hdd since the original was beyond repair. Never had the chance to test the vga-out though.

I've done the same. In my case, the HDD is fully functional - no bad sectors at all. It is really nice laptop.

For the VGA, it seems to be switched by some proprietary software that I don't have. Maybe will be able to find it somewhere online.

Cheers
