I got bored and went on ebay and bought something stupid. The pictures and description got me too curious to pass it up. I'm still waiting for it to arrive but in the meantime, does anybody have a clue who built this thing or what model it was? And if so, please tell me how on earth you identified it.
Ebay Decription: Very Rare Genuine Intel Desktop eLP486DX33E4F Ballard Synergy w/Socket 485 TECH
Now I have NO clue where he got that model number from because it's not in any of the pictures. I also can't figure out who Ballard Synergy is. Based on the seller's page, I'm assuming it's a scrap yard that is selling things they think are worth more than scrap metal price. So perhaps there was a sticker or something he didn't include in the pictures. It looks like it has networking and 485 is a serial networking protocol used in industrial applications. Based on that, and the fact that it appears to have an IDE HDD installed but has a SCSI symbol on the back, I'm going to assume this is definitely out of some industrial shop.
The model numbers I can see in the pictures are....
P/N: RTLP486DX66G which is on a sticker which also has the serial number.
PRODUCT CODE: LP486DX33E8I3D which is on an Intel sticker which also contains all the "This device complies with part 15 of the FCC......." garbage.
I'm going to get this working. It's absolutely filthy and it's been crushed pretty bad, but it doesn't actually look that bad.
Any ideas? I'm sure I'll have more once it arrives.
