I was surprised that I didn't find anything on Vogons about this, but I went to buy another couple Startech socket 7/370/A heatsinks and they're nowhere to be found. According to their web pages and the support representative that I talked to, Startech is no longer selling these heatsinks/letting the inventory sell out.

It's too bad - they were great, affordable products, new, and offered the convenient thumb levers to remove them (no screwdriver needed). It's a sad day to find out that I cannot buy any of these any longer. I have a lot of various heatsinks, but Startech products were still my go-to.

I just figured I'd create a thread that can be found in future searches.

I tried one on my K6-2+ and it slip-slides around, almost like the K6-2+ is thinner than it expects, or the clamps aren't strong enough

I've noticed this with a number of such products over the past couple years. Seen a similar thing with Verbatim CF cards, which I found great for retro systems, but are also no longer readily available brand new.

When things like these are available, it's a good idea to stock up before they disappear from the market.

Pretty sure it is because the clamps were made for the S370 Tualatin CPUs.

I've had to bend clamps to make them tight enough for some things and looser for other things.

When they are sold as compatible for S7/A/370 they really aren't without some manual adjustment.

Agree ! Have had to adjust or swap various clips on heatsinks depending on circumstances.
added: my local shop carries Startech stuff but have not had vintage HS is a few years...

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun
