Google does not show anything for two chipsets. I plan to have both and had plans about designing a cache module for compaq 486 motherboards that utilizes VLSI chipsets which there are two kinds which I need data on both chipsets: Yes, chipsets 486 class made by VLSI.

VL82C481

VL82C483

Both were produced around 1994 era and used much newer two chipsets made by VLSI an one motherboard.

Please not to be mistaken with these earlier Compaq 1991 or 92 eras computers, which uses ultra-rare proprietary 64K cache modules that uses Intel turbocache 485 cache controllers with non-standard SRAM ICs module board, used on a compaq very busy compaq designed motherboards using large number of mixed chipsets from many makers.

Thanks and cheers,

the VL82C481 datasheet is out there, TRW has it https://theretroweb.com/chip/documentation/vl … be183309250.pdf
looks like none of the pdfs were saved by wayback machine and when Philips got VLSI in 1999 they may have had most of the datasheets but the Philips archives "have been excluded" from wayback machine....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Thank you! Excellent on VL82C481 pdf. Is there additional data to go with this? This only shows timings and general pinouts. I was trying to find sample schematics. Especially cache schematics.

I still would like to have VL82C483 as well.

Cheers, Jason

Any chance, anyone got the datasheet for the VL82C420.

I cbfd looking personally, but maybe bitsavers.org

https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Abitsav … savers.org+vlsi

I built:

I dug through every single one of them. So many chips that VLSI made before and after VL82C420 can be found but not itself.
Thank you for the pointer though.

What aspects are you after?
Registers? Pinouts?

An archive of the Linux kernel will likely have the registers detailed.

If you can find a schematic or boardview for any board with it, the pinouts should be there

I just need the pinout at this point.
Have a look at my project: https://github.com/ahmadexp/Open-Source-PC110
I pretty much got every single chip figured out (even the ASICS) except the VL82C420
I was unable to find a schematic of a laptop that uses it. I know for fact that these laptops use this chip, but I was unable to find a schematic for them:
AST Ascentia 910N
Compaq Lte Elite 4/50CX, 4/75C, 75CX, 75CX
Thinkad 230Cs
Any help is appreciated

There used to be a service manual for 910N around, but can't remember if it had full schematic. Sometimes you can get AST service stuff to pop out by going dates back and forth on ari-service.com on wayback machine but it's a pain in the butt. Not sure if elhvb.com ? archive managed to catch anything.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

It is so strange that you can find all kinds of VLSI chipsets around the same time but not the VL82C420.
I even found a guy who used to the test engineer for it 30 years ago on LinkedIn, managed to get in touch and he said that he will look into it. Then next day he told me that he did not find anything.
