When I began my search for vintage laptops, I stumbled upon the Compaq N400c. It was an exceptionally thin laptop capable of gaming and offering DOS sound, albeit with poor emulation due to the lack of a real OPL chip. Despite its unique features, I was not impressed because of the ATI M1 chipset, which struggled with key retro games like Unreal, Thief, and Quake II. It was plagued with glitches and bugs.
Later, I discovered the Compaq N600c, which is bigger and features better ATI M6 chip. I really liked this model. Eventually, I found out about the Compaq N410c, which is the same size as the N400c but also equipped with the ATI M6 line N600c. This was a game-changer—it’s compact yet capable of running the Windows games I love. Although it lacks native DOS sound support, I found a solution on the VOGONS forum to enable it (SBEMU: Sound Blaster emulation on AC97)
Why am I sharing this now? I recently bought another N410c! Both come with docking stations. One of them includes a native WiFi card built into the screen lid (although it causes an IRQ BSOD when enabled, which I need to troubleshoot further).
One laptop is in perfect condition, while the other is also in good shape, although it has some white spots on the screen, which is a bit disappointing.
Later I'll upload drivers I have for all named laptops. For N600c I even have original restore CD.
