CPU fan for Socket 7

Hi,

I have two questions regarding this CPU fan for a Socket 7 CPU

The attachment IMG_4496.jpg is no longer available
  1. I noticed that the fan blows the air in toward the CPU. Is this the normal direction for these fans and CPUs?
  2. I accidently bought a fan that is 40mm instead of 50mm, and as you can see I little bit under dimensioned. Will this be an issue?

The current setup is an Intel MMX 233 MHz CPU.

Yes all cpu fans should blow onto the heatsink, not suck air off it. Way more effective that way round.

Smaller fan should work fine if cfm is high enough. Measure heatsink base to be sure, but I think it will be fine. MMX TDP is slightly over 15W iirc.

A slightly bigger heatsink would probably do no harm, but the stock cooler that came stuck on my 200MMX is about that small with slightly more but smaller fins in a radial pattern, with about the same size fan on it.

For any 486, pentium or MMX this can will do. I've got smaller sinks with the same size dan and they are just fine.

Main advantage of the bigger sink or bigger fan is beter cooling, handy for overclocking, and the bigger fan should make less noise. This one might sound like a little jet engine.

Stuck at 10MHz...
