Hello!
I have a small (but annoying) problem with my 20 years old ”Compaq Armada e500” laptop. Whenever I plug the computer in with the AC POWER adapter the laptop starts automatically. (Without pressing the power button). This only happens if there is NO battery attached. If the battery is attached, the laptop dont start automatically. The problem is that the battery is not working and I dont want to use it…But I dont want the laptop to start automatically whenever the AC is plugged in.

So far I tested to replace the CMOS battery and reset the BIOS settings, I also formatted and re-installed a fresh OS. And there is no power options (such as ”wake on AC”) at all in the bios.

Is this som kind of hardware/motherboard failure or is it ”normal” for old laptops to turn on automatically whenever the power cord is inserted and there is no battery?
