I'm struggling to get this card to play nice in Windows 2000 with DirectX
Does the Cirrus Logic GD5480 not support Direct3D or DirectDraw properly?
Thankyou

In DirectX 5 redist for Win9x in the driver section DXCIRRUS.INF lists this:
PCI\VEN_1013&DEV_00BC.DeviceDesc="Cirrus Logic 5480 PCI"
Have not checked if the drivers exist in newer versions...

I had an HP OpenGL accelerator card (no Direct3D) that was built like a piggybacked addition to a CL GD5480. I used it in Win2k.
With the HP drivers installed, it technically supported DirectDraw but the performance was abysmal. 2D games that used DirectDraw would run but they were unplayable. Direct3D was entirely unsupported - those games would just error out.
I don't know if the DirectDraw performance issue is inherent to any standard CL GD 5480, or if that was unique to the HP card/drivers I was using.
The 5480 doesn't do any 3D but it seems Direct3D should still provide software rendering.
Yeah like an S3 Trio32/64, the Cirrus cards should work under DirectX but have no Direct3D support....
One thing I noted is that MS included DX compliant drivers up to DX6.1, after that it was up to the manufacture to supply DX supported drivers.

DirectDraw works fine with my Cirrus Logic GD5480 in Windows 2000 - Diablo 1 runs perfectly.
Direct3D says not available however I can still click "Test Direct3D" and pass all tests.
Is there anyway to force Direct3D enabled?
Which dx version you use?

I'm using the default DirectX Windows 2000 comes with - DirectX 7.0
