I'm currently in the market for a new Sound Blaster Live! card for my Gigabyte GA-7IXE motherboard, which features an AMD Athlon 700 MHz CPU.

I’ve narrowed it down to two options: the SB060 and the CT4830.

Both cards are available at a similar price point, so cost isn’t a deciding factor.

I'm looking for a card that will work reliably out of the box, without any major driver issues.

Do both of these cards meet that criteria? Is one more difficult to set up or manage than the other?

In terms of performance, I believe either card should be a solid choice for Windows 98 SE gaming?

If you want a hassle-free setup and the best compatibility for Windows 98 SE gaming, the CT4830 is a better choice

Any SB Live version works with this driver package and guide: Guide: Installing Windows 9x and DOS drivers on Sound Blaster Live! cards (version 3.1)

However, SB0060 is from the 3rd generation of Live cards while CT4830 is from the second generation. Personally, I would choose SB0060...

Thanks a lot for recommending me the driver package plus guide. With such a driver pacakge I agree that "newer" sbg060 is the better pick. @Linoleum.

@leileilol My apologies for the arkward wording. I just wanted gather some info about some specific versions of the SB Live! 5.1 cards. That is the only reason why i used the product designation.

Yes my thoughs exactly . Due the high nummer of sblive model numbers I also thought it might be better to use the right code so people know what I am talking about.

I am biding for sb live 060 and I hope will win.

Have done some more research and the sb060 is supposed to be among the best sound cards for windows 98se.

I was worried about potential drive issues first but this problem is not valid anymore. Due the driver package that was linked in the thread.

I believe sb060 and sb0100 are supposed to be the best. I can’t remember why though. I think Phil has a sb0100 in his SB Live videos.

Sorry for the late reply. I was busy with real-life stuff. Yes, Phil has a nice video of the SB0100 and has said many good things about it.

I am still searching for a card, but will grab myself an sb0100 soon. There are some nice offers for that card.
