I recently doubled the RDRAM in my HP Kayak XM600 with an upgrade from the original PC711 to the PC800 speed. However, despite the service manual stating that this system supports the PC800 speed, the RAM speed remains at PC711. Is there something I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated. For reference, the system has an HP OEM Asus P3C-D with an Intel i820 chipset.

Is there a setting in the BIOS to change the RAM speed?
If not, I would try resetting the BIOS via the BIOS reset jumper on the board.

What FSB is the system running at?

Yamaha modified setupds and drivers
Yamaha XG repository
YMF7x4 Guide
Aopen AW744L II SB-LINK

133 MHz. No setting in BIOS. I'll attempt a BIOS reset once I open the system to install the incoming second CPU.

The Best way to make those computers faster is to upgrade the CPU and replace the hard drive with SSD or Compact Flash card.
128mb of RAM is fast 256mb is the fastest it will run 512mb of RAM will NOT make it run faster.

These computers boot up slow but are very Dependable and Resilient using the correct recommended HP hardware.
They run great on Win2000
I used my HP Kayaks from Win98, NT 4.0 thru Win2000
They ran the Best on Win2000

I've found that 512MB of RAM is highly beneficial when browsing the modern web to download games on my Kayak, which has Windows 2000. 256MB caused it to run out of physical memory and rely more heavily on virtual memory.

The system came with a plenty fast 800 MHz Slot 1 Coppermine, and I'm waiting on the second one I ordered for a dual CPU setup. It's hard to find an inexpensive slotted 1 GHz Pentium III, let alone 2. I barely managed to find another 800 MHz with the same heatsink and stepping as the one my system came with.

As for the hard drive, I decided to go with a period correct '99 Western Digital Expert drive. It's plenty fast for the time and I have no need for solid state flash memory on such a vintage machine.

The system is fully stock, except for the GeForce2 GTS. It runs wonderfully.

Thanks for the tips, though.
