Hi,

I've recently recieved an Intel SAI2 Server Board, soldered 2 mosfets that were missing and replaced some blown caps. After that, the board started giving post codes. Without ram, it stops at 28 and the speaker starts playing. With ram(typical 256mb sdram), the post codes loop in this sequence: 28, 2A, 87, 0c, 17, and 28. Does anybody have an idea what to try or replace? Im new into fixing old boards. CPUs: Pentium3 1.00GHz, Pentium3 800MHz

Thanks.

Are you using two different speed CPUs in it ?

If so .. my guess is it wouldn't like that at all, to use just one it may also require a terminator in the second socket.

According to the manual here the 28 post code is due to ram, if the BIOS cannot find any usable DIMMS itll stop with this code. I would try to find a double sided 128Mb DIMM to test it with.

Hi, thanks for the reply. How can i put a terminator in the second cpu? Also, ive tried with alot of ram sticks but ive said that it doesnt stop and is in the post code loop after putting any ram.

Few basic checks to start with...

...what spec memory are you using - board requires PC133 spec registered ECC SDRAM DIMMs (the system will not operate properly if either PC100 DIMMs or non-ECC DIMMs are installed). See https://theretroweb.com/motherboard/manual/sa … fc962978093.pdf for details

...what processors are you using (800MHz / 1GHz ?) - board requires at least one supported proccessor (133MHz bus speed) of 1GHz or above. See https://web.archive.org/web/20040426034134/ht … b/CS-006686.htm for details.

...if using only one supported processor, a terminator module for the 2nd socket isn't required (board handles termination automatically).

...if using two supported processor, the Test Specification (S-spec) must match.

...any more general system specs you have - power supply, expansion cards used etc.

Hi, thanks for the reply. After trying the board with an ECC memory stick, it booted up! Thank you! Unfortunately, 2 of my CPU's are unsupported but the board boots up to image with those 2 cpus. (SL5FQ, SL52P) (supported 1GHz: SL5QJ) I am satisfied with the results.
