I have a Gateway desktop dual booting Windows 98 and 2000.
I also have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 405cs running Windows 95, and a Gateway 2000 Colorbook also running Windows 95.
I want to be able to freely transfer files between these computers. Specifically right now I am playing Baldur's Gate and I'd like to very rapidly swap my save between my desktop and laptops.
I have a generic PCMCIA/Compact Flash adapter that works great in the laptops. I can pop it in and the laptops see a 2gb drive, no problem. The adapter is generic Aliexpress crap: "Onefavor" is the brand on the sticker. I don't recall having to install any specific drivers for this in Windows 95, but maybe I did and forgot.
I installed a PCMCIA / PCI bridge in the desktop, specicially ENE CB1410. Windows 98 and 2000 both installed generic drivers for it. I also managed to find more specific drivers for it (sp23830.exe can be found here: https://ftp.zx.net.nz/pub/archive/ftp.compaq. … /sp23501-24000/ )
Unfortunately neither Windows 98 nor 2000 will mount the flash storage. The card does show up as "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller" in device manager, with a yellow warning, saying that the driver should be reinstalled. That does nothing.
So Windows is aware that some kind of storage is attached, but that's as far as it will go.
Any tips? Maybe some better drivers I can use?
