Hi, I have an Commodore branded mini tower PC made by Escom with it's original Intel Zappa board. https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/ ... appa#docs
The board has no L2 cache. I was wondering if it's possible to add some, if so what would I need to add other than soldering some SRAM chips?

Anyone done this or something similar? I doubt it would make a huge difference but the missing cache kinda bugs me and it might be fun to try. I'll do some research to find out what's needed but thought someone here might have already done it.

Obvs you can't see the board here but a pic of the machine..

Hah,

i had this same Intel Zappa Mainboard, also without L2 Cache and i had yesterday the "Idea" to find an Zappa Board with Cache.
And here it is:

The attachment socket5 intel pentium 1.jpg is no longer available

Both F-Logic ICs for the Cache Bus and the Cache SRAM with 20 ns.

But is see there is more to do with the Capacitor at the Edge and some Decoupling ? Capacitors and Resistors, ...
(And i'm not an high skilled Electrian)

But i think when someone provide "for Safety" the right Resistors that will run i guess.

And don´t forget the "leaky" Bastards, ...

Pictures saying more than dead PCBs (TM):

And i think the empty SMD IC Spot is the Tag SRAM for the Cache. That will be also needed for adding the L2 Cache, ...

Now, all SMD Caps are "wiped out" and waiting for "new" Replacement.
