So I tried out this game, it's a horse adventure one, uses Direct3D 7 and DirectDraw 4. It seems to hang on startup and doesn't advance, not sure if it's a dgVoodoo2 bug. I attached a log below for reference. Also this error comes up:

Also have to say I'm using the English re-release version published by ValuSoft in 2002, not the 2000 original from DICE, but I'm pretty sure their code is mostly the same.

I only tried the English version and it works for me. The game creates 2 windows, so enabling fake fullscreen in dgVoodoo is recommended, and you have to Alt-Tab to the real rendering window right after you launched the game.

I tried this game 2 years ago but don't recall seeing this error at all. I think this game would mess up setting the texture formats and hence an emulator was needed

Yeah, I followed those instructions and now works fine, I updated the game's PCGamingWiki article explaining how to get it working for higher resolutions, since D3D7 has a resolution limit of only 2048x2048. I just find it so weird that this engine (Refractor 1) starts a separate black and blank window and stays on during the game (the exe is called black.exe (?)), not sure if it's even needed 🤣. Also the game seems to suffer from Z-fighting on the trees and maybe on some other objects as well.
