I have been updating SIV using the information within the Intel® Pentium® III Processor Specification Update Release Date: May 2005 Document Number: 244453-055 and there are some anomalies that I am hoping members can help me resolve. I am also wondering, is there is a later Specification Update ? When I ran the SIV Checkout of S-Spec it reported as below and as I think S-Specs were unique, are they?, I am surprised.

file.php?id=218013

  1. SL3SB - I have one and it's a Coppermine-733 [cA2] so I will comment out the Coppermine-700 [cA2], does anyone have one that's a Coppermine-700 please?
  2. SL4G7 - if you have one is it's stepping ?
  3. SL49G - if you have one is it's stepping ?
  4. SL49H - if you have one is it's stepping ?

There is now 244453-058 for your edification and delight!

Years ago I put them all in a spreadsheet and ran into several anomalies. SL49G is one of them. Considering the room for error between workfloor and administration it does not surprise me. The ones you ask about are listed as below in my spreadsheet.

SL3SB cA2 0681h 733/133
SL4G7 cC0 0686h 800EB/133
---------
SL49G cB0 0683h 850/100
SL49G(2) cD0 068Ah 850/100
---------
SL49H cB0 0683h 866/133

Thank you for ver 058 - aug 2007, I just checked and the S-Spec information is the same, there are more errata. For the SL3SB I have commented out the 700MHz one and for the others the 2nd entry. I added them mainly to populate the dropdown in new CPU S-Spec and Save File Suffix Setup that I added as a user wished to append the S-Spec to SIV save files on his i486 system. This far I have i486 + PentiumPro through to Pentium III Coppermine/Xeon Cascades.

My interest mainly focused on Pentium and up so I do not have earlier documentation. Are you looking for [ i486 Microprocessor] versions of the [240440-001] PDF ? There are a couple available for download here:

The guys at the OS2 museum suggest there are none to be found.

Maybe they were not archived under the title [specification update] ? Otherwise I am not sure what you are looking for besides these listings ate Ardent Tool:

[240440-001_alt.pdf 2022-09-25 19:37 12M

Thank you, I guess this is why I can't find one. I am wondering is Pentium® Processor Specification Update Release Date: January 1999 Order Number 242480-041 the latest please? It's newer than any I found via Google.

The last one that I have here is 041 january 1999:

It does indeed seem odd that there are no 486 spec updates under that title. There are the 240440 pdf's that seem to have been released in 6 versions as pointed out above and there is the Intel486 DX2 Microprocessor Data Book 241245 that came in two versions. Intel started the [specification update] series in june 1996 so it is anyone's guess why the 486 did not undergo the same treatment.
Which details are you looking for in those updates ?

Thank you, that's the same as I have. For the Pentium I just wished to make sure I have the latest.

For the i486 I am trying to find out which S-Specs/Steppings have the reading dr4 causes Invalid Opcode exception "feature", from https://www.geoffchappell.com/studies/windows … pu/precpuid.htm it seems that any CPU that returns 0xFFB0 does this and thus far the only one I know that does is CPUID 0401 SX308 and wonder, does CPUID 0402? I plan to start a new thread about this once I have released SIV V5.81 Beta-06.

I have one of these in my closet, but I don't want to set up a rig to look at it.

The attachment Capture.PNG is no longer available

Edit: That's from cpu world, BTW

That's a shame, at the moment SIV reports [cC0] but it might be [cA2] and the only way I can think of to know for sure is to use a CPUID instruction to read the stepping. What date is printed on it?

Hot links are good so I added one. If I had one I would post a screen shot similar to as below to CPU World

SL4G7 - the 4 is out of sync with the >47< other cA2 steppings that start with SL3..

After checking, for as far as possible, the other three I found that
the SL3SB was originally listed as a 733 in two sets of two cpu's:

For SL49G I found a photo on the web:

SL49H is currently offered on ebay with photo that indicates that it is not a cD0 stepping

If you'd like, I have a couple of the SL49G (850/250/100/1.65V) which I can check to confirm as cB0/0683h, rather than cD0/068Ah of the 850/256/100/1.75V part

Thank you, that would be great and just leave SL4G7 + SL49H.

I guess the '00 on the image means 2000, I have just updated SIV to have 2000 rather than 1999

I have just found SL23M which is both a Pentium-266 [myB2] and PentiumPro-200 [sB1]

Another hickup that I ran into in the past is the SL45R. In the Intel spec sheets it occurs as a [ C0 0686h 800/100 Celeron Coppermine-128 ] and also as a [cB0 0683h 500E/100 Coppermine fcpga ] .
CPU World does not list this Celeron but it lists an SL55R Celeron with the same spec as the one above but that one does not occur in the Intel spec sheets.
