Hi, I have a Compaq Prolinea 5120e computer and it has a 2GB disk installed in it. The drive is terribly noisy so I wanted to upgrade this item, so I purchased an SD to IDE/ATA 40PIN adapter :
Zrzut-ekranu-2025-05-06-220738.png
Parameters of the adapter:
SD card adapter can be used in a computer instead of a 3.5" drive
Adapter SD socket (F) - IDE/ATA 40 PIN plug (M)
Plug & play adapter - no drivers required
Compatible with MMC, SD, SDHC, SDXC cards
Compatible with systems: Amiga, DOS, Linux, Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, etc.
Fully bootable
Supports ATA/133, U-DMA, Mode3 modes
Power supply from molex HDD and/or FDD 5V
Dimensions: 8cmx7.8cmx1.1cm

Description of the problem:
Adapter detectable correctly in the bios (although the bios of this computer is quite unusual, to get to it you need to boot from floppy disks or using them to create a partition on the disk and then you can configure options).
In general, the symptom is that after a clean installation of the system (win 95, win98se) the installation runs correctly but after finalizing the installation when the system is about to load the system stops at the boot screen (stops means it does not hang because in win98 the login screen animation - the animated bar at the bottom of the screen - keeps moving, but nothing else happens. The same with win95).I tried to make a clone of the old system with different programs - same thing. On traditional disks the computer works without problems and on this adapter the system does not want to boot. I noticed that the "safe mode" works. That is, something causes a conflict that the system does not want to boot but waits indefinitely at the login screen.
Do you have any idea what can cause such behavior of systems.
Hardware additionally equipped with 3dfx voodoo 1, AWE32 CT3600 with 2mb ram, lan card 3com etherlink III isa.

If you can go to the F8 menu, command prompt only, and WIN /D:F
this is less drastic than safe mode, but goes through the BIOS to access IDE disks.
If it works, there is some incompatibility between Win9x esdi_506.pdr and this adapter. Possibly DMA, but that would be off by default in Win9x until you turn it on.
