Heyho,

I am running original Hardware and wanted to play Hired Guns by Psygnosis.
My Soundcard is an Orpheus 2 LT which is Soundblaster compatible. I also have a Roland CM-32L.

The issue I got first, is that no sound works at all.
However if you define SOUND= something, either in the games HG.BAT or in Autoexec.bat, you get music on Soundblaster.
For Roland I still get nothing.

But once you go into the game, I get no sound anymore.

Now I have read for emulation that you are supposed to copy in a file called ct-voice.drv
I used this file before in Burntime I think. So I created C:\SOUND and then copied the file into it.
In autoexec.bat I then wrote
SET SOUND=C:\SOUND
(the same line in the hg.bat had been removed)

Unfortunately this has no impact. Sound effects still don't work. And I also have no music using roland. Whether the drv is in the directly or not makes no difference.

Any other ideas of what I could test here?

Also adding this video from a fellow collector, to show that the game actually does have sound effects. I just have absolutely no idea how to get it running.

Tried various different configurations, 2 Soundcards, Oprheus 2 as well as Unisound drivers.

Managed to solve the issue. It required both of these:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\SB16\DRV\CTSB16.SYS /UNIT=0 /WIN95 /BLASTER=A:220 I:7 D:1 H:5
DEVICEHIGH=C:\SB16\DRV\CTMMSYS.SYS

This then works on my SB16 (with vibra chip). Unfortunately there doesnt seem to be an equivalent for the Orpheus. See: Re: Orpheus II soundcard thread *** LT board now available ***

This is how it sounds like with Sound Effects:
