I've been trying to get my Rev 1.8 ASUS VL/I-486SV2GX4 up and working, however I keep running into performance issues. No matter what, cachechk shows a main memory speed of 15-18MB/s, which seems unusually low. Speedsys shows similar poor numbers. For reference, other 486 boards I have usually show 30-40MB/s. At first, I thought it related to the L2 WB Cache problem with the dirty bit on SiS 471 chipsets. However, even with the patched BIOS, performance is poor. Additionally, even with L2 WT instead of WB, performance is bad. I've tried all kinds of jumper settings and configurations, and nothing seems to work.

Does anyone else have a Rev 1.8 board that actually performs well? If so, what is your configuration?

Make sure the pins on the Turbo Switch header are shorted, either with a jumper or with an actual button. ASUS boards run at low speed by default unlike many other brands.

Also, what CPU are you using? Can you post your SpeedSys/Cachechk results?

Wow, I can't believe it was something so simple. With a jumper installed on the turbo button header, all is well.
