Hello, I got a Pentium 166 MMX and I noticed some weird sticker on it. Did these processors have it from new? Or do I need to pull/rip it off?
There is a lot of dirt visible under the sticker.

That it is glued very tightly.

Looks like safety measure, to avoid shorting anything against a heatsink or getting anything conductive on the pin's through-holes.
The heat spreader is not covered by this film, so I don't think it needs to be removed.

I have not seen this before, but it definitely appears what vstrakh described, protection to avoid shorting things with heatsink. I would leave it be, there's more than can go wrong than right when trying to remove it.
