After realizing Dell decided not to provide Windows 9x drivers for the GF4 440 GO cards under Windows 98 or Me I followed the guide here Dell Latitude C840 with Windows 98 SE to get them installed and it works and identifies correctly. But the max resolution I can set my display to is 1360x1020 even though my display should be 1400x1050 according to Dell and even the Nvidia control panel. To the best of my knowledge there isn't an INF file for the internal display available. How can I correct this? None of the resolutions will fill the screen properly since they are not native. When I first booted the clean Windows ME install I DID have fullscreen video before installing Nvidia drivers.

While I am at it, if anyone knows of an Alps Glidepoint and Stickpoint driver that works under 98/ME where I can do a two finger tap to right click and such I would appreciate it

Which version driver are you running ?
Laptopvideo2go made modified .infs and tested specific versions for Win9x, XP etc.
I suggest you get v61.76 Win9x driver: http://web.archive.org/web/20161206075629/htt … n9x_english.exe
and extract it (7zip) and try their .inf (specific to that version) overwrite the original NVAML.INF with this one and install/update....

added: these may not work any better but it supports these Gforce Go 400's
NVIDIA&DEV_0174.DeviceDesc="GeForce4 440 Go"
NVIDIA&DEV_0175.DeviceDesc="GeForce4 420 Go"
NVIDIA&DEV_0176.DeviceDesc="GeForce4 420 Go 32M"
NVIDIA&DEV_0177.DeviceDesc="GeForce4 460 Go"
NVIDIA&DEV_0179.DeviceDesc="GeForce4 440 Go 64M"
NVIDIA&DEV_017D.DeviceDesc="GeForce4 410 Go 16M"
NVIDIA&DEV_0186.DeviceDesc="GeForce4 448 Go"
NVIDIA&DEV_0187.DeviceDesc="GeForce4 488 Go"

I thought Installing Power Strip seems to have fixed it. It prompted me right away to correct PNP Monitor limiting my resolutions. But I am still stuck at the lower resolutions

Thank you I may try that. I am using 45.23 for compatibility with older games and performance

That is the lowest driver version .inf they have for Win9x

I did a custom monitor driver in Power strip with the only changes being the max resolution increased to 1400x1050 and selected that INF as the monitor driver in device manager but it still is limited.

Even adding a custom resolution isn't working right. I am just going to try the driver you linked me to

From Dells website on the C840, it only has Win2k and XP video drivers, they never released one for Win9x/ME. Maybe because for Win9x it is considered non-standard resolution ?

Do I select the NVAML.inf as the driver INF when I specify a device in device manager? I tried the normal INF (can't remember the name" and part way through the install it states asking the location of lots of .HLP files and .dll files. I did run the installer before trying this and even rebooted before

UPDATE: Tried the NVAML.inf and same thing. I don't see any of those missing files in the extracted folder either

Yeah oddly I have seen the post I referenced in my OP where someone has it working correctly

A bunch of those "missing" files are for foreign language parts. In that topic he had issues installing the video driver, never reported IF the screen res was OK, maybe he running it at a lower mode, which should work.
Try 1024x768 or 1152x864 and see what happens...

Yeah I finally just ignored them and the driver works fine... MINUS I still cannot get my resolution fixed. This post Windows 98 can't use 1400x1050 resolution with Geforce4 4600 mentions that Win9x requires a resolution to be divisible by 4 and that 1050 is not. I may try adding registry entries as the post suggest to force it to work because neither Nvidia control panel nor the Power Strip ap have been successful in adding them using 1400,1048 so that it is divisible by 4 as it suggests

I just used the info provided in the previous post. The change was manually adding a resolution that would be 9x compatible in the registry

Ok, was hoping you modded a .inf. Should work to add same info to an inf as long as in the right spot...
