Great looking design, quiet, but unless the previous owner had good case ventilation or - preferably - hat a fan blowing right at the card (witch seems to be the case with your card judging by the 80mm zalman fan), then it's already dead. I suppose the browning of the ATi logo could be from an attempt to run the card passive then, as I find it hard to believe it got that toasted during regular use with a fan blowing on it. It would go to what, 60-70C tops?

That 3850 AGP is sweet... fastest AGP card ever released. I've been looking for one for a long while, came across a couple, both dead (bad bridge chip). I have a 4670, but despite what reviews say, it's in fact noticeably slower then the 3850.

Yeah, unfortunately the Radeon 9800 Pro was likely running without the fan as the fan and bolts were still in the original bag. I did see the brown-ness (is that a word?) of the sticker and bought it knowing it was "untested." Sadly, the card is artifacting quite heavily when detected so it's either toast or almost on the way out and more of a museum piece in the box.

Two items today.
1. HP Kayak XU 7/550. But when I came home there was a mainboard from some XA inside, so only single processor instead of dual. Also the front display isn't working. Bummer.

2. Toshiba 4010CDT, blank screen when powering on. No screen on external monitor either. So needs some work....

Wish me luck on this 50 USD gamble ...a GA-6VTXD .. Dual Tualatin support with what looks like Universal AGP, the caps all look to be in good physical condition from the pics so that's something in its favor. But are thankfully easy to replace on this board as Ive recapped two others without AGP so have plenty of spare caps.

Comes with two PIII 1Ghz 133 FSB cpus which will get replaced with the pair of Tualatin 1.4s I have and 1Gb of memory.

Needs a good clean too.

Now why would I go and buy on a bunch of junk like this?

It's filthy, has a couple dinged up components and is missing the bracket, but I've brought a GUS back from the dead before.

To me, seeing cool parts in this condition is like seeing a sad, filthy cat\dog wandering the streets. I haven't really been buying PC stuff, but... I mean... just look at the poor thing! I gotta take it in, clean it up and give it a second chance... 😥😅

Picked up an Aureal Vortex AU8810A1

Works beautifully for the most part, but having some odd issues with left/right sound channels being reversed in some games. A3D demos work beautifully though. Downloaded the AU8810 9x 4.06.3220 driver (full) from the driver library.

There's a VLB graphics in there that's probably not worth nothing, but whether it's a $50 or $200 beastie needs a closer look.

From the scrapper I frequent, another Slot A mobo to add - Biostar M7MKA.

Will keep you all updated. Chances are I might turn it into another great board bonanza.

Yeah, I looked the pictures over pretty thoroughly the other day when I found the listing. I believe that odd looking card was a frame grabber.

The VLB card is a Cirrus Logic of some sort. Probably a GD5426. The BIOS is missing but shouldn't be hard to replace if I ever get around to it. There are also a 3-4 PCI VGA cards, I think mostly Virge variants. Aside from that, nothing really of note.

Everything is missing brackets and the seller had already thrown them away, so that's a bummer... but as long as the GUS's PCB and main chips aren't irreparably damaged I think it was a good lot to grab. I can probably get a good chunk of what I spent back just reselling the useless stuff as gold scrap.

I would guess the Gravis soundcard or that vlb card.

The lot arrived, and it doesn't look like it took any more damage. It was filthy, but it cleaned up nicely! I will test it out when I get some time (after straightening some pins and checking for shorts of course).

If it shows any signs of life at all I will recap the whole thing, replace the dented crystal and the broken plastic around the Sony connector. Then it will just be a matter of getting a bracket that fits it. Not sure if any other cards could act as donors, but that would be the preferred way since a GUS deserves a real metal back plate rather than something 3D printed.

Some ESS cards might have that kind of bracket. At least one 1869F I had did. Unfortunately sold it as it served me no purpose any longer now that I have a Terratec Gold 16/96 w/ wavetable.

Yeah, there was someone posting about that not long ago but last I remember they never replied to any inquiries as to how they were making them or if they were able to make them for others.

The RAM upgrade should be no problem at all, I have lots of SOJ RAM chips. 😀
