Intel Core2 Quad Q6700 - funny question?

Hi there.

Long ago, I set "email notification" on a "2nd hand computer parts for sale" website with keyword "Q6700" and today I got a notification from that website with a seller sellinf this CPU.

But..

I completely forgot the specificity of that CPU and why I had set this model of CPU as a notification - to buy. 😀 It's 2.66 Ghz LGA775.

Is that CPU something rare, or what? Looked for it around topics here, lots of stuff really, confused..

I remember long ago, I was trying to build the Fastest possible Win98SE and WinXP computers.

So maybe that model of CPU is the fastest (or close to) model for Win98?

Any idea, clue, would be much appreciated.

It is the best CPU you can use on a 865 motherboard without any modification.

Then why 865 motherboard? It is Intel's last generation of chipset which supports the AGP slot.

I'm using Gigabyte's GA-8i865GME-775-RH, Ver6.6。Of couse this is a MATX motherboard, its standard ATX version is GA-8I865G775-G I think.
Pretty nice motherboard!

BTW, be notice of the DOS compatiblity of the PCI sound card, if you also want to play some old games under the pure DOS environment.
But personally, I don't think this is a nice pure DOS platform even you get a decent compatibility PCI sound card. If you're just focousing on the Win9x platform, then just buy it.

Well, PCI audio compatibility would not be an issue for me. I really care about having as better 3DMark benchmark as possible, without any driver hack, custom modifications within the system, ini/inf files, et cetera.

Focusing on real, deal, native Win98SE performance 😀

I think I found the motherboard you mentioned above, but I have no idea what REV is it. Any clue on this? (Is REV version important, tho?)

Nope, I don't think you have to specail attention to the revision.

Since you want to check it, just search it besides the CD_IN connector, you should find it there.
