For "this is the only 3D-capable PCI card I could find at a reasonable price" reasons, the video card for my Socket 7 rig is an All-In-Wonder 128. This is obviously less than ideal; I get 19.7fps with lots of geometry-related chugging running GLQuake timedemo demo3, at 640x480 no less.

Can anyone share a "fastest" Win9x driver package for the Rage 128, so I can maybe eke out just a little bit more performance? I'm not expecting miracles but the current drivers I'm running (from a driver package on archive.org, IIRC) are clearly bottlenecking on the poor P166 I'm using in this rig. A friend just showed me his Voodoo2 flying in more or less the same rig and I want some encouragement before I do something I'll regret 😀

I tested a bunch of the drivers for this card a while ago. From what I remember, the latest Windows 95 drivers were the fastest. The latest 98/ME drivers improved the dither pattern but slowed things down a lot.

That sounds promising. Do you happen to have a link you can share for those drivers?

Sure! I pulled these drivers from the atitech.com/ati.com website in Wayback Machine. I would start with this one and see if you get better performance (also attached below): https://web.archive.org/web/20010805220216/ht

Thanks, but I tried those over the weekend and it didn't like them at all. Obnoxious "tearing" (slow redraw operations) on the desktop and seconds per frame in GLQuake. The drivers I was originally using are actually older, dated something like 9/18/99. I got them from a driver CD image on Internet Archive.

You can try this one or that one.
