I forgot about this thread...yeah, I use lower brightness on the monitor. Still, dark mode just looks wrong to my eyes and brain.

I don't know where to write this, but when I refresh the page all pictures increase the view count by +1.
If I refresh the page 20 times all pics will get a +20 count.
IDK if it is me but I tried with all my browsers and the result is the same.

I see the same - to some extent - it seems that it's only the first refresh, that counts the views.

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

I can go on to 100 and it still counts.
I use the latest Firefox.
This is funny.

On the color schemes, I just ran across this post: https://social.chinwag.org/@mike/114599586008008583 While many of us with normal vision can find the current two color scheme options perfectly alright (or at least not completely unusable) it does seem it is a legitimate problem for some people. After all, not everyone has the same vision.

Most sites these days just have an option at the bottom of the page (or sometimes even the top) to toggle a dark mode, but I do think both the current default color scheme and the alternate are a bit lacking in contrast and such anyway. Something a little more akin to classic schemes would likely help a lot of people.

Anyone else having a TON of errors on the forums lately? Not sure how long... maybe the last couple days?

Every time I post I get an error message. Every. Single. Time. I. Post.

If I hit the back button a couple times to get back to the thread and then refresh the page the post is always there, but this is really annoying. The site has popped up one of those errors from time to time for years (some days more than others) but today, it is every single time.

Does anyone know what causes this?

EDIT: 🤣... it didn't error when I posted this one of course..............

EDIT2: Also didn't error when I edited the post.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

I think this is the first time I have booted when sine 2011!, the system usually has 4 x SL9HA.

How cool it would be if vogons formatted sSpecs as hyperlinks to CPU-world, as CPU-world does ... 😀

Just posting here, what I did in another thread ...

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

Has there been any thought towards adding a new user ranking for those with over 10,000 posts?

There's been some interruptions due to DoS attacks recently.

My gut tells me that anything like that isn't going to have wings. Vogons isn't about giving likes to posts and rizzing yourself with achievements; it's more of a forum.

Your interpretation of my question is way off. If the naming convention is meaningless, then get rid of it entirely. If the forum is going to have a naming convention at all, then I think there is value in consistency.

Sorry if I was a little snarky there. I meant to say that generally I have seen requests for extra "levels" of community recognition fall on deaf ears at Vogons, even for something as simple as a naming convention. There is an attitude of "keeping it old skool" that permeates the structure, that is driven by a desire to fight off a social-media-ification of community spaces on the internet.

I think that this was especially exacerbated by the transformation of the VCFED forums around the same time as Vogons, and a lot of the people in charge here didn't want it to end up like that. There was a lot of drama over that transformation and a lot of people got very agitated and had public meltdowns on the forums about it.

If the forum is going to have a naming convention at all, then I think there is value in consistency.

My interpretation of that dynamic is that "consistency" at the forum level on Vogons means "not changing anything," and it's as simple as that. Although that's just my take on it, and I don't run anything around here.

Just to learn, who are the owners of Vogons? I.e. the ones paying for it.

Names make it a little more funny, could stay in the Hitchhiker's trail.
Unless we make it masonic 😀

By consistency, I mean, continuing the trend. This is how the naming convention and thresholds currently works:

newbie 0
member 100
oldbie 500
l33t 2000
l33t++ 5000
A 10000
B 20000

For some consistency, you'd want to extend the naming convention to A and B.

A new feature for users to disable the naming convention via the user profile could also be helpful.

Doesn't Qbix own VOGONS?

I have an interesting suggestion.

Add a "learning", or similar, sub section.
