I decided that I wanted to play the original "Red Baron" again today so i fired up DOSBox and installed it. The game runs phenomenally with a normal core and 10k cycles, but once I get into the 3D simulation, my sound is gone. I have it on the intro and everything, but the simulation does not. I've selected "SoundBlaster" from the game setup and I am naturally emulating an SB16 with the correct ports and DMAs, but it's no good.

Has anybody else tried the original game under DOSBox and encountered this problem? I am kind of lost on what to do at this point because the game runs great with the exact same settings on my real 486SX/25 under DOS 6.22 with a real SB16 card on the same IRQ/DMA settings.

Found the solution. You have to set the cycles below 10k and run a normal or full core. After using 7500 and normal, it runs fine. Apparently this game is like many others, and max cycles cause issues. The same thing happens in "Veil of Darkness", only it defaults to PC speaker output.

The game is choppy with less than 10000 cycles, but you can use Adlib (in the game setup) instead of SoundBlaster, there is no change in quality of sound.
