I have taken up too much space, and my wife said she will throw away some of it without my consent.
What should I do?
What do you think I should agree to let my wife throw away?
386? 486? 586? Hard drive? Graphics card? main board? But these are all my treasures

Oh my god, I feel like my end is coming……

Haha.

On a serious note, how many *complete* systems do you have? Hold on to a few, for instance; a system for every generation. 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s.
Or is five too much?

The entirety of the garage loft, and some of my office space, but that’s kit that’s either in use or regular rotation. The garage loft is the “store”.

The wife doesn’t go in the garage loft…

As for what to get rid of. Anything that doesn’t work and you know deep down you won’t repair. Anything you have more than two of (one plus a spare is enough). Anything that has a better alternative that ultimately means the lesser part/piece won’t see the light of day.

Most of my hardware is either in my home office, or is in the loft or the garage. If it's visible elsewhere in the home, my wife would have a problem with that.

To be precise, excluding the chassis and power supply, I have at least 20 systems covering the period from 1985 to around 2008.
In fact, the most collected is the sound card.
Anyway, it's much more than my wife thought

I really hope to have a garage loft……

If this is true, then I suspect your wife is also a heavy fan of retro hardware……

Sounds like unequal relationship. You do not threaten to throw away her 30 shoes and clothes. You do not care how much she spends on them.

New wifey, man and I'm not even kidding. Nobody touches my shit unless I'm in a coffin and the wife knows it. Stand up for those treasures!

I have a new problem, Facebook free giveaway groups. XP era to even 10 era computers, laptops, monitors and other stuff. I just now have good destinations for riding around. And thing is getting out of hand.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.
PS. If I upload RAR, it is a 16-bit DOS RAR Version 2.50.

I've got half the attic in use and some random stuff in the garage. In total, about 10 complete systems, 20 full computer cases, and 8 crates of random things. My wife mainly complains that she doesn't see any return on the investment in her hobby (clothes) while mine just stays the same value. Besides the attic the house is declared "free of old computers".

Could you arrange to collect everything into a single room/attic/garage? That would make her happier I guess.

Stuck at 10MHz...

Theyre like Kleanex mate, you use them then you throw them away.

Women come and go, computers... You'll regret it if you get rid of any of them.
