Hey all. I've had my 486 running DOS 6.22/Win 3.11 from a CF card for a while now, and that's been great.
I wanted to try getting Windows 9x up and running on a different CF card so I could swap between them as needed. I figured 98SE was the right choice.
I've got a few spare, small (2-4GB) CF cards, and installed it to one. Graphics looked fine throughout the install process. Looks fine at boot. Even the Windows loading screen has no issues. But once I get into the actual program, I was greeted with a regular pattern of vertical black lines across the screen. I tried rebooting a couple of times, and sometimes it would boot up looking normal, and sometimes it would boot up looking like this. Interestingly, my mouse cursor is drawn over the lines, but has two big black bars attached to it. I booted into safe mode and made sure it had the drivers for my video card (S3 Trio), which it did already, and when I tried to give it drivers manually, it said it was good.
I figured that was weird and annoying, so I tried the same process (noted below) on another CF card, and ended up with the same results.
In addition, when I'd try to shut down or reboot the machine from within windows, even when the graphical issue wasn't present, I'd get a pop up saying that Runtime32.dll performed an illegal operation, and was to be shut down. I've also seen it (sometimes) throw a similar error on Explorer when first booting into the OS.
Anyone seen this before? Suggestions?

(Install Process for both cards - Inserted the CF card, and a 98 Boot floppy I had on hand, booted off the floppy, partitioned and formatted the CF card, brought the CF card back to my PC to copy over the 98SE install files, then took it back to the 486 and ran through the installation there.)
