I'm having trouble trying to get game MIDI to use my external MIDI devices; I have a SIMCONN with 32MB and can get MIDI to use any soundfont I load there no problem when I select General MIDI on port 330, but can't figure out how to bypass the onboard MIDI and use any of my external synths through the gameport. The weird thing is I AM able to play music on external devices, but only when using Falcosoft Midi Player, so everything is definitely wired correctly.

I did a search here and saw someone suggest disabling the onboard MPU-401 emulation option in the settings, however doing this just meant I had no MIDI at all in games.

I'm sure I'm missing something simple, and am hoping someone can let me know what that is.

Thanks for any assistance!

I have AWE 64 MIDI OUT (330) selected in Falcosoft. I have the same option selected in Control Panel/Multimedia, but when I choose General MDI (330) as an option in a game setup program, the music still plays through a soundfont loaded into the AWE64 memory.

Alright, so problem solved! I knew it would be a (relatively) simple fix. What I needed to do was 1. Disable onboard MPU-401 emulation, THEN 2. In MIDI Instrument Mapper, ensure General MIDI Out (330) was selected for both MIDI Instrument Mapper AND Physical MIDI Device, ensuring settings were Saved.

Once this was done, MIDI audio routes correctly to any connected external devices.
