Hi,

Just wondered if anyone has had a problem with this SCSI drive where it'll read 230/128mb discs fine, but cannot read 640mb discs? It seems to know there is a disc there at least and it's size, but partitioning/formatting seems to leave me with an unreadable disc.

I've even tried new old stock discs, same issue, also tried a few different SCSI cards. I've cleaned the laser and the drive generally, seems to be in decent mechanical order, it is properly terminated. I don't have a vintage PC with PCI slots to hand to test it there, I've been using it on a Acorn Risc PC SCSI card.

Any thoughts? I've seen a few posts on the M2512A which is very similar.

Thanks!

How are you formatting / partitioning the 640MB disks (you'll need utilities supporting 2048 byte/sector) - in Windows at least see Re: SCSI Fujitsu MO M2512a problem

The attached version here is slightly later than found in the above link...

The attachment w9x603.exe is no longer available

Using these MO device drivers you can use MO in Windows 9x environment.
This package supports the following configuration;

- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 95

1. Overview
===========
These supplemental MO device drivers have been created because of
problems in Windows 9x when used with removable disks with different
data sector sizes. MO disks have both 2048 bytes/sector disks (2.3GB,
1.3GB and 640MB capacities) and 512 bytes/sector disks (540MB, 230MB
and 128MB capacities).
The supplemental MO device drivers allow smooth use of your MO drives
with Windows 9x, eliminating possible problems that might result due
to different sector sizes....
