IIRC, my Intel SE440BX-2 is too old to run Coppermines - the VRM doesn't have the right voltages for it. Might be an issue on the Dell board too ..?

I have a SE440BX-2 and mine works with Coppermines just fine. I did have to upgrade the BIOS though and the post screen doesn't always pick up the correct clock speed.
Also works with Tualatin and Nehemiah chips with the appropriate slocket/modded pins.

I seem to recall that it POSTs but then warns that CPU is over volted and then halts. I put latest bios on, which I think I read somewhere is bad, as it has Coppermine awareness, but not being compatible, and this halts system.

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

I've been looking for a CPU upgrade for my Dell XPS T500, which currently has a PIII 500/512Kb. I've read varying reports that it will or won't take anything faster than a P3 600E.
It's a 100MhZ FSB board so that does limit my options pretty heavily. I would love to track down a 1Ghz 100MhZ Slot 1 P3 for it, but they seem nearly impossible to find online.

Does anyone have experience/suggestions for a CPU upgrade on Dell's SE440BX-2? Even a P3 700 would be a huge upgrade, as I'm running Bryce 3D and it's struggling hard with just the 500.

Thanks!

I have this same PC, Dell Dimensions XPS T500.

I have a pin modded Tualatin Celeron 1.4GHz in an FC-PGA slotket running on the most recent BIOS. I have a low profile copper cooler on it so that I can still use the Dell heat shroud.
I have tried two different slotkets; a cheapo no-name FC-PGA and an AOpen FC-PGA and they both work perfectly. The motherboard automatically senses the necessary voltage and it can apparently support a wide range of voltages.

The BIOS posts that it has a Pentium Pro but CPUz shows the correct information and the performance is consistent with the 1.4GHz rating.

You can find pre-modded Tualatin Celerons on eBay from a gentleman in Korea. He seems to always have them in stock and the price is fair ($50ish).

Hope this helps.
